early years MUSIC making

Music is one of our most potent means of human expression. Making music can be pleasurable, satisfying, uplifting, soothing. Through engaging musically with the people and things around them, children invent, create and play – these musical activities are importantly tied into their emerging identities.

CREATIVITY

Increased ability to tell their own stories and engage their imagination. Musical play sparks creativity, a crucial skill in today's modern world. All children are creative and this is encouraged and nurtured in the music sessions.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

Through regular group music-making, children learn to listen, watch, share, take turns and collaborate with their peers.

NUMERACY

Counting within music-making – e.g. singing counting down songs, supports basic addition & subtraction. Children develop their understanding of one to one relationships of numbers to objects through counting games with instruments and in finger rhymes.

INCREASED VOCABULARY

Children learn new words through learning the words to songs.
They also find it easier to remember long strings of words,
phrases and sentences when they are ‘attached’ to a tune.
